CEMEX Road Closure Work

Cemex Tube Removal Update

Friday, April 4 at 9 pm through
Sunday, April 6 at 9 pm

Cemex is removing the conveyor tube over Colorado State Highway 66 as part of the company’s reclamation of the Dowe Flats quarry. A temporary weekend road closure and detour around State Highway 66 from the intersection of  US Highway 36 to North 75th Street will allow the conveyor tube removal to be completed safely and efficiently.

Here’s what to expect and when:

• From Friday, April 4th at 9pm to Sunday, April 6th at 9pm, all SH-66 traffic at the points shown in the diagram below will be re-directed. During that time frame, conveyor tube removal work will take place.
• The Colorado Department of Transportation and Boulder County Public Works have approved the road closure and detour. Eastbound and southbound traffic on Highway 36 will be directed east along Hygiene Road, then north on North 75th Street to Highway 66. Westbound vehicles on Highway 66 will be directed south on North 75th Street and then west along Hygiene Road to Highway 36.
• During the road closure and detour, law enforcement officers will be present, and signage will be posted to help direct traffic. Please see the map below for the points of closure of SH-66, the conveyor removal location, and the temporary detour route.

Safe Streets for All Lyons

Safe Streets for All Action Plan

Information for the Public

For the past six months, the Town has worked with Mead and Hunt, consultants to develop a holistic, equitable, and achievable Strategic Safety Action Plan. This plan goes beyond being a mere planning document with talking points about crash reductions. The plan identifies high injury networks, develops appropriate strategies and objectives, and positions the town for capital projects designed to secure SS4A implementation grant funding for initiatives such as roundabouts, enhanced bicycle infrastructure, and new sidewalks/upgraded pedestrian crosswalks.

The Board of Trustees approved the plan at the March 17, 2025 meeting. Next steps will be to implement and install one or two of the suggested improvements for this summer and look into grant funding for larger safety improvements.
