Film Screening - Plastic Earth

On Monday, Dec. 9, at 7:00 the Lyons Sustainable Futures Commission will be showing the film Plastic Earth.  Plastic Earth is a documentary that chronicles the demand for plastics that are present in all aspects of our lives. Using science, the film demonstrates the impact of plastic on our health, our economy, and our future. The film also explores the newest solutions being implemented by innovative individuals and scientists. Along with sustainable solutions in progress, you will learn how you and your family can make better choices to help reduce the plastic problem.

After the movie, Rosie Briggs from EcoCycle will be on hand to answer your questions on local actions to reduce, recycle, and rethink our use of plastics.  In addition, there will be updates on the Plastic Pollution Reduction Act and the Producer Responsibility Act, recently passed by the State of Colorado to increase access to recycling in the state. This event is free and at the Lyons Regional Library.

Parade of Lights Thank YOU

Thanks to all those who were able to attend the Artisan Market at the Lyons Elementary School and the Parade of Lights. The entries and floats were spectacular this year.

The top three winners were:

Best Representation of Theme : Saint Vrain Magic featuring Bonnie Payne and Father Time Drum Line & Mayama Dancers
Best Use of Lights: Lyons Portable Welding
Overall Parade Winner: Unicorn Magic - local artists- Ann Hall and Jacob Leeuwenburgh


Like many of you, we were disappointed to learn about the last minute cancellation of the Drone Show by the SVVSD Innovation Center. They had a technical problem with about 70% of their drone fleet at a show the night before. This caused significant damage to their drones, rendering them non flyable. The students were equally disappointed as they put a lot of effort into it and were excited to showcase Lyons and their work. We hope to reschedule with them, although the repairs may take two months.
