Spring is right around the corner and bears will be coming out of hibernation soon. In partnership with Boulder County Parks & Open Space, Lyons is one of the beneficiaries of a Colorado Parks and Wildlife Grant. 
What does this mean for you as a resident of Lyons? Certain homeowners in Town may be eligible for a bear-resistant trash can at a significantly reduced price of $30. The cans typically run $250-400 and will be sold at the subsidized rate of $30, limited to one can per household. Get ready by ordering your steeply discounted bear-resistant trash can and help our community prevent bears and other wildlife from accessing human trash. The cans will be available for pickup in Lyons at the Town's Public Works Facility on Saturday, April 22 and Wednesday, April 26. Additional information can be found on the website, and your order confirmation will include your selected pickup date and order number.

BACKGROUND:  What's this program all about?

Last fall, in partnership with Boulder County Parks & Open Space, the Towns of Jamestown and Lyons submitted a successful proposal application in response to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) Human-Bear Conflict Reduction Grant. The grant offered statewide funds to help communities reduce opportunities for conflict with bears, such as eliminating access to unsecured trash and other attractants. We were one of eleven awardees out of nearly 30 proposals statewide that were awarded funds.
