Boulder County Fire Updates

5:00 PM TUE OCT 19

The Town of Lyons and the Lyons Fire Protection District wants to ensure that our community has the most up to date information regarding the local fires.

Both fires are now being managed by a Type Two Fire Operations Management Team, which allows Lyons Fire to maintain focus on the town and our fire district.

For the most accurate information on the fires, use their official fire information page, via FaceBook for the CalWood Fire and the Lefthand Canyon Fire.  Please use their page for information on the fire as a whole.

Early this evening there will be a virtual meeting to update residents.

Today at 7:30 PM MDT – 8:30 PM MDT

Public · Hosted by CalWood and Lefthand Canyon Fires

Join us live on Facebook at 7:30 pm (Mountain) on Tuesday, October 20 for a virtual community meeting. We'll have updated information about the CalWood and Lefthand Canyon Fires and will answer your questions about firefighting efforts, strategy and evacuations.

The team has reported today the Calwood Fire has been more active on the south side, being fueled by this morning’s stronger west winds. Firefighters are actively building containment lines as the fire backs southward down the slope. There has also been some activity on the northeast side of the fire, mostly from interior fuels burning. Crews continue working in all divisions constructing containment line and patrolling established lines. The contained portion of the fire near Highway 36 is holding.

The Lefthand Canyon Fire has had some increased activity today as well. Crews have been primarily working on the north side of the fire, south of the Spring Gulch Road to build control lines.

An interactive fire map has been created for the CalWood and Lefthand Canyon Fires to help residents stay informed. One feature of the map is that you can input an address and see where the fire perimeter is in relation to your location. There is also a 'measure tool' that allows you to measure the distance from a specific location or address to the fire. We intend to create additional layers in the coming days to make the map more functional.
That map can be found at https://arcg.is/1ybX0u

All evacuation warnings for the Town of Lyons, Lyons Park Estates and all parts North of 7 and West/South of 36  are still in place. As a reminder, an evacuation warning means to be prepared to leave at a moment's notice.

The types of wildfires we have, can involve fast moving and escalating fires.

If it changes to an evacuation order, then residents should leave immediately.

Please continue to pay attention to the public information releases and briefings.

We continue to remind all residents in the Town of Lyons to please sign up for the  Boulder County emergency messaging system. Let your friends and neighbors know about this important alert service.
