Curbside Collection of Tree Limbs

July 13 and July 14 | Town of Lyons Residents

The Town of Lyons has hired a contractor to pick up tree limbs for residents within the Town of Lyons (town limits), on July 13 and 14.

Guidelines:

  • Limbs and branches should be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on July 13 in order to be picked up.
  • Branches and limbs ONLY.  No grass, weeds, loose yard waste, or compost. It will not be picked up.
  • Limbs should be cut as straight as possible. Limbs must be less than 8" diameter and all cuts facing the same direction.
  • Place limbs into stacks. Neighbors are requested to consolidate where possible.
  • No construction debris or treated lumber. No nails or wire in limbs. It will not be picked up.
  • Limbs should be placed off the sidewalk. Please work to ensure that no obstacles interfere with the pickup of the limb pile by the loader and chipper. Do not park in front of your limb pile. Municipal code prohibits placing items in the street.
  • Limbs will not be collected in alleys. Even if your trash/recycling collection occurs in an alley, you must place limbs curbside in front of your property for pick-up.
  • Two collection days are scheduled; any limbs placed at the curb after collection day will not be collected and will be the responsibility of the homeowner to dispose of.

Stormwater Improvements

Stormwater Improvement Plan

High St

The project seeks to improve the Town’s stormwater drainage system, specifically at High Street between 4th & 5th Streets, with the installation of new curb, drainage inlets, pipes, and manholes on the south side of the street. This project is funded by CDBG-DR with the goal of increasing the resiliency of the Town’s stormwater drainage system.

Currently the project is being designed and permitted with construction beginning this fall and completion by the end of the year. Town staff will plan to host a virtual meeting with the impacted businesses and property owners in early July. If you would like more information on the specific project, please reach out to the project manager, Philip Strom.

Bears and Garbage
Bears are Looking for Food in the Trash

Bears Are Back

Please Secure Your Trash

Springtime reminds us that the warmer weather has bears waking up from their winter hibernation. Along with April showers and May flowers the active black bear season also returns to our area. Take time now to ensure your trash and compost are secured!

The Colorado Department of Wildlife notes that "Black bears are curious, intelligent, and very resourceful; they will explore all possible food sources. If they find food near homes, campgrounds, vehicles, or communities, they’ll come back for more." Typically, bears that find food sources in town are likely to stay close to town, which increases the chance of human encounters and the bears losing their natural fear of people.

Following these tips to bear proof your home or business can help protect you, your family and hopefully save a bear.

  • Put your trash out the morning of your trash pick up.
  • Do NOT put it out the night before.
  • If possible, store your trash and compost in a house, garage, shed or other enclosed area until the morning of collection.
  • Remove bird feeders.  Feed birds in winter months only.
  • Both Western Disposal and One Way Trash Service offer bear proof trash bins for residential and commercial services. Contact your trash provider and ask about their bear proof system containers.
