Lyons Economic Development Commission

The Economic Development Commission (EDC) is an advisory board to the Board of Trustees that is entrusted with the following duties:
(1) Advise the Board of Trustees on matters relating to ways to develop new business, strengthen and support existing business, increase the Town's sales tax base and otherwise promote economic development in the Town.
(2) Provide guidance to transition from a residential development-based economy to a commercial-based, localized economy.
(3) Create an economic environment that promotes financial sustainability for the Town.
(4) Create an environment in which local business can prosper.
(5) Assist in the development of a streamlined, business-friendly environment that promotes commercial and job growth.
(6) Establish practical guidelines for the formation of public-private partnerships.
(7) Collaborate and coordinate on the development of promotional materials to attract out-of-town and state companies to the Town.
(8) Identify ways to make the Town a retail and recreational destination for residents and visitors.
(9) Leverage the Town's history, natural setting, parks, recreational activities, unique retailers and relationship with music and arts communities to attract tourists.
(10) Actively seek funding sources, including grants, to sustain and enhance the programs offered.

Colorado Main Street Program

Since 2010, Lyons has been a Main Street Community. The Colorado Main Street Program is managed by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs that offers resources to revitalize traditional downtown districts, within the context of historic preservation. The program supports community self-reliance, local empowerment, and reestablishing central business districts based on their traditional assets of unique architecture, personal service, local ownership, and a sense of community.

Lyons Urban Renewal Authority

After an extensive review conducted by a third party consultant, it was found that under Part 1 of Article 25 of Title 31 of the Colorado Revised Statutes that the creation of an urban renewal authority could be a beneficial tool in Town recovery and economic development. In May 2015, the Board of Trustees established the Lyons Urban Renewal Authority.
