The Sheriff's Office and the Town of Lyons entered into a contractual law enforcement agreement in 1989. The contract details the basic services to be provided by the Sheriff's Office including the provision of a Sheriff's substation in town, Sergeant Kevin Parker who acts as the Town's law enforcement administrator, a full-time deputy, and investigative and animal control services. These resources are supplemented by three additional deputies who work out of the Lyons substation, and who provide coverage to the unincorporated area surrounding Lyons.

In 2007, deputies responded to 983 calls for service within the Town limits as compared to 841 calls for service in 2006. Demonstrating responsiveness to the ongoing concerns of Lyons citizens regarding traffic enforcement, deputies issued 1,423 traffic summons in 2007 as compared to 1,404 summonses issued in 2006; they investigated six vehicle crashes in 2007 and five in 2006.

As a community that relies heavily upon tourism, the town has a very active festival schedule, requiring additional extra-duty traffic enforcement assignments, festivals security, and crowd control at the various parades and other events hosted by the Town throughout the year.

One of the signature events held in Lyons is the annual Town Barbecue, which is hosted by the Sheriff's Office. This event, which is now in its 14th year, is held at Lyons High School in conjunction with the first home foot ball game each year and draws upwards of three thousand fans. The proceeds from this event are used to support the athletic program at Lyons High School
