LaVern M. Johnson Park
Bounded on three sides by the North St. Vrain Creek and sandstone cliffs, LaVern Johnson Park is a community favorite year round. There is an abundance of recreational opportunities which include picnic areas, RV and tent camping, playground area, Lyons Whitewater Park, splash pad, and an ice rink in the winter. Year round, there is plenty of room to escape and take in the beauty of Lyons no matter what the season.
The new Whitewater Park beckons to kayakers and tubers to drop in and go for a ride. The quarter mile horseshoe shape park has 8 features that are spread out nicely with big pools and eddies. Our Whitewater Park is the perfect challenge for the novice boater and an excellent time for the more experienced. On a hot summers day tubing is also available along the river.
LaVern Johnson Park is also home to wonderful picnic areas and shelter facilities that can be rented for events or parties. The park also has camping for tents as well as RV's with full hookups. Camping fees start at $20 a night for tent sites to $40 a night for RV’s with full hookups. Sites are available on a first come, first served basis unless reservations have been made. There are 15 RV sites with full hookups and 17 official tent sites that can accommodate two tents each.
Weekends for summer 2017 are fully booked. There may be sites available mid-week on a first come, first serve basis only.
The camping season runs year round. Also, there are several community events that take place during the summer where camping and shelter reservations may not be available. It is important to check with the Town of Lyons Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Events or the Park Host to ensure that you are not in conflict with Town events.
